The name "Quebec ", which comes from an Algonquin word meaning "Where the river narrows", originally referred to the area around Quebec City, where the Saint Lawrence River narrows to a cliff-lined gap.

The Québec region is of unequalled historical and cultural heritage interest, with its architecture, pedestrian streets and fortifications, unique in North America. A visit to the Plains of Abraham and Vieux-Québec (Old Québec), a UNESCO World Heritage travel destination, will provide the visitor with almost 400 years of historical discovery opportunity.

Local attractions include the Quartier Petit Champlain, a great shopping experience with one-of-a-kind boutiques and bistros in a romantic european atmosphere. Or wander through the streets of Vieux-Québec with its handicraft stands, renowned fashion designer boutiques, art galleries and gourmet food stores. Quebec City offers a gastronomic diversity of over a thousand restaurants, which will give you a taste of Quebecois conviviality. From maple products served in sugar shack conditions to fantastic meals savored in an XVIIIth-century ambiance, the Québec City region is a veritable gourmet route!

Québec’s founding religious community held tremendous influence over the region’s development. The most popular of these sites remains the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine, home to the annual Sainte Anne Novena. The experience is a deeply moving and spiritual one for the 100000 pilgrims, who gather here from all over the world in the hopes that their prayers will find a kind ear in the good Sainte Anne.
